The only inland town in the Soya district that does not face the sea, and has a karst terrain with a limestone cave in the northernmost part of Japan. Dairy farming is popular, and local brands such as "Nakaton Milk" and puddings made from it are also popular. Taking advantage of the rich nature, it is a town where you can experience various outdoor activities such as mountain climbing, gold dust digging, and limestone cave tours.
